Following recent publications that have come to light, we thought that we would provide some official advice around the use of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs).
These drugs are commonly used to treat those with hypertension and heart failure, for example Ramipril and Candesartan. Social media has suggested that these commonly used drugs may increase both the risk of infection and the severity of COVID19.
The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and other advisory bodies have recommended that treatment with these medications be continued due to a lack of clinical or scientific evidence to suggest otherwise.
